What do you like best about working at MASTR?

The open atmosphere of the clinic allows a community feel in patient care. Patients get to work side by side with each other and support one another while getting better. As therapists we learn from each other by observing different treatment techniques and pooling our resources to solve complex problems.

Why did you choose PT/OT as a profession?

I picked out OT as a profession because I am fascinated with the anatomy of the hand and upper extremity as it relates to function. I also find it very rewarding to help people recover from injuries so they can return to their daily activities. Lastly, I like to be creative and splinting allows me to use my own hands to build something that is effective in helping people achieve their goals.

Give a recent example of a surprisingly successful outcome you had with one of your patients.

A high school baseball player came to visit me at the clinic this past spring in his baseball uniform after being able to return to playing on his high school team following extensive PT before and after shoulder surgery.

Give a recent example of surprisingly successful outcome you had with one of your patients.

I recently treated a patient who suffered with pain in her foot for the past year. She is a young college student and has been unable to wear any shoes other than her running shoes with orthotics and has also struggled with walking to her classes because of the pain. Since starting our treatment she was able to go on a two week trip to Africa to help at an orphanage, where she frequently was on her feet. When she returned she reported how amazed she was about having minimal to no pain while working with the kids. We are still working to get her back into her favorite pair of heels by the time she returns to school in the fall.

What would you consider your specialty, if any?

I have taken multiple higher level courses on manual therapy treatment, including techniques focusing on both myofascial release and mobilization/manipulation. Much of this training is related to the spine, but I enjoy treating all orthopedic injuries. In addition, I truly enjoy working with the local high school student athletes, as well as recreational athletes. They are always highly motivated to get back to their sports and are a pleasure to have in the clinic.

What do you like best about working at MASTR?

The PT/OT rehab team is amazing. When I can smile when I go to work and still be smiling when I leave, I know I am with a great group of professionals. The company, in general, gives back to their employees and I find that to be an asset missing in many companies today. It's a wonderful feeling to be validated and felt appreciated for all your hard work.

Give an example of how the close relationship between MASTR therapists and OACM doctors positively affected a patient's care.

The relationship I have with the OACM doctors is one of the main reasons I love my job. It makes patient care seamless to work so closely with the OACM doctors. I know what their expectations are, what I need to contact them for. They are all very approachable and quick to respond with any concerns. This allows for the most efficient patient care with the least amount of risks. Patients feel comfortable knowing the high level of communication that goes on to provide the best care. Being able to have access to medical records, operative reports and radiographic studies allows us all to give consistent information and allows our patients feel comfortable that we are all on the same page.
