Foot Pain: Have You Injured Your Achilles Tendon?

Injuring your Achilles tendon can happen to anyone, whether you are an athlete, or just an active person going about your everyday life. Foot, Ankle Injuries Are a Unique Specialty at Orthopaedic Associates of Central Maryland

If you have ever sprained or fractured your ankle, you know the pain associated with such an injury and the difficulty walking and bearing weight afterward. Fortunately for the Baltimore area, Orthopaedic Associates of Central Maryland has a leading foot and ankle specialist on staff to help individuals with common and complex ankle and foot injuries get back on their feet. Patrick Maloney, MD, OACM’s foot and ankle specialist is a fellowship-trained physician whose expertise includes major reconstructive surgery including ankle replacement surgery. Ankle replacement is a relatively new procedure, only coming into practice over the past 15 years. Dr. Maloney performs this complex procedure to treat the arthritic ankle joint by removing the joint surfaces and replacing them with metal and a hard plastic spacer. He explains that “the surgery is more selective in the ankle because it’s a smaller joint that has to take the greater force of walking, so we’re more selective on patients that may qualify.” In addition to treating problems with the ankle, Dr. Maloney also performs delicate tendon repairs and deformity correction in the foot for people with high arch or flatfoot, as well as bunions and hammertoes.
