What is Laser Therapy?

August 4, 2017

Joint pain can be caused by injury affecting any of the ligaments, cartilage, and bones within and surrounding the joint. Pain is also a feature of joint inflammation, often caused by conditions such as arthritis. For joint related pain or injury, most orthopedic surgeons will explore a wealth of non-surgical treatment options before making the diagnosis that surgery may be necessary.

Symptoms and signs associated with joint pain can include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Warmth
  • Limping
  • Locking and stiffness
  • Weakness
  • Lack of mobility

Pain can be either chronic or acute, and should be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon immediately for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Aggravating and relieving the conditions that affect the degree of your pain will also be important to discuss with the doctor, to get to the root of the problem. After an examination, further testing might be necessary, including blood tests, X-rays, or other forms of diagnostic tests, such as an MRI, which are helpful if the problem requires further definition.

Whenever possible, we want to quickly reduce the pain and inflammation, and restore mobility to your joints, particularly in the knee, hip, elbow, and ankle. There are a variety of techniques and treatments available, including MLS Laser Therapy.  It is important to note, that surgery isn’t always the only option.

What is MLS Laser therapy?

When a physical condition or injury affects mobility or quality of life, there is one goal: a rapid return to everyday activities. MLS Laser Therapy has been proven to be a successful treatment, as evidenced by extensive and credible studies.

Cleared by the FDA in 2009, MLS Laser Therapy is a noninvasive, safe, effective, and convenient treatment for those suffering from chronic arthritis pain, back pain, neck pain, bursitis, hip or knee pain, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, toe nail fungus, tendonitis, shoulder pain, post-surgical pain, neuropathy and fibromyalgia.

How does the treatment work?

Light energy enters damaged cells and stimulates intercellular activity. This reduces pain in the area and speeds recovery of damaged cells. Once the cells recover, the healing process is complete.

Light energy will:

  • Stimulate cells to remove toxins
  • Allow oxygen and food loads into the cell
  • Block pain signals in the brain and release endorphins and encephalin (natural pain killer)
  • Increase the production and cell growth bringing blood flow into the area, accelerating the healing process.
  • Jumpstart the body’s own healing process by stimulating the mitochondria in the cells.

Treatment Session Time

A single treatment takes less than 15 minutes and is completely painless and comfortable. Treatment times may vary for different areas, and can also depend upon the severity of the issue.
